Singapore’s government has announced the Smart Family Support Grant, a new initiative offering S$4,000 to eligible young families navigating the challenges of modern parenthood in a digital world. Launched in mid-2025, the grant aims to ease the financial burden of raising children while promoting the adoption of smart parenting tools and digital learning devices.
With the cost of living rising and technology becoming essential in early childhood development, this scheme targets households with children under the age of seven. It provides financial assistance for tech-enabled childcare products, smart home safety tools, and online early education resources ensuring every child can thrive regardless of their socioeconomic background.
Who Can Apply and What the Grant Covers
The grant is available to Singaporean households earning less than S$10,000 per month, with at least one child below Primary 1 level. Families can apply through MSF’s LifeSG portal, with simple digital documentation such as income proof and child’s birth certificate required. Approved applicants will receive the S$4,000 grant in two tranches. The first half supports upfront purchases such as baby monitoring systems, interactive learning kits, and ergonomic home-learning furniture. The second half is reserved for subscription-based educational platforms, home internet upgrades, and parental digital literacy workshops.
Bridging Education and Technology Early

One of the core objectives of the Smart Family Support Grant is to reduce the digital divide among young children. In a country that is rapidly embracing digitalisation, early access to quality tech-driven education is becoming a key factor in long-term academic success. This grant enables low- and middle-income families to invest in their children’s digital readiness from an early age. From AI-powered learning toys to e-reading platforms with bilingual content, the scheme encourages the integration of safe and meaningful technology into everyday parenting.
Encouraging Healthy Screen Habits and Parental Involvement
Beyond financial support, the program emphasises healthy technology usage. Participating families gain access to parental guidance modules developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and IMDA. These include interactive sessions on screen-time management, child cybersecurity, and how to curate age-appropriate digital content. By equipping parents with the knowledge to guide their children’s digital experiences, the grant promotes responsible tech use and stronger family bonds in a connected era. Many parents have praised this approach for acknowledging not just the “what”, but also the “how” of modern parenting.
A Model for Inclusive Family Policy
The Smart Family Support Grant is part of Singapore’s wider Family First policy shift, aiming to make the country the best place to raise a family. Officials say this pilot initiative could evolve into a recurring benefit for families, potentially linked to key development milestones such as preschool enrolment and digital literacy benchmarks.
Already, community centres and PCF Sparkletots branches are seeing a rise in sign-ups for tech parenting seminars. With strong uptake and positive public sentiment, the government is optimistic that the Smart Family Grant will strengthen early childhood development, boost digital inclusion, and ease financial pressures on young parents across the nation.
